Where do I complete the skills session?

Skills are completed independently at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center with real-time, objective performance feedback.

How long does the in-person skills session take?

The self-guided skills session typically takes 20–60 minutes to complete. Most students finish in about 30 minutes and may repeat skills practice as needed.

Do I need to complete the online portion before the skills session?

Yes. The online learning activity must be completed prior to attending the hands-on skills session. It can be completed at home or work. It can not be completed at the skills session.

Is this course instructor-led?

No. This is a Self-Guided Learning™ course. Both the online learning and skills session are completed independently.

When do I receive my completion eCard?

Your American Heart Association BLS Provider Course Completion eCard is issued immediately after successfully completing the in-person skills session and all required course components.

Is the eCard the same as an instructor-led class?

Yes. You will receive the same American Heart Association BLS Provider Course Completion eCard as students who complete an instructor-led class, and it is widely accepted by employers and schools.

Can first-time students take this course?

Yes. This course is designed for both initial (first-time) students and those completing a renewal.

How long does the course take?

The online learning portion typically takes 30 minutes to 2 hours. The self-guided skills session usually takes 20–60 minutes, with most students finishing in about 30 minutes.

Do I have to purchase the BLS manual?

No. The American Heart Association BLS Provider eBook is included with the HeartCode online course.

Do I receive CE credits?

Certain professions may qualify to claim approximately 0.75–1.0 CEUs upon successful course completion.

Do I have to take a written test?

 No. A written test is not required to receive your American Heart Association BLS Provider Course Completion eCard.
